The '''235 2-4-2 Columbia O27 Lionel Lines''' The Lionel Scale Hudson Type 4-6-4 Locomotive No. 773 holds a unique place in the history of Lionel. It is the direct descendent of the pre-war No. 700E and the No. 763. Most of the trains produced during the Post-War period were "selectively compressed" because of the tight radius of the curved track that was used. This was not true with the 773. It is a full O Scale (1/48) replica of the Pre-War No. 700E—updated to run on the standard O Gauge tubular track of the post war years. First issued in 1950 in celebration of Lionel’s 50th year of producing electric trains, Variation A came with the very desirable No. 2426W six-wheel truck tender that had the directional unit and a whistle in it. The number "2426W" is rubber-stamped on the bottom of the tender as is illustrated to the right. The directional unit is connected to the locomotive with plug-in jacks and the locomotive was equipped with Magnatraction and a smoke unit. The New York Central’s Class J1e Hudson was reportedly Joshua Lionel Cowen’s favorite locomotive.This locomotive will only work on O Gauge track and will not operate properly on O27 Gauge track. Lionel reissued this engine in 1964 with differences noted in the variations listed below.

The 235 2-4-2 Columbia O27 Lionel Lines was issued uncatalogued in 1961. Produced on a painted black Type VIII body with a white heat-stamped number on the cab, it came with a liquid smoke unit.
